I have recently started a business as McKenzie Friend (January '14) I also work as a pt temp Admin for NHS and have an interview with for another self employed role as a Child Contact Supervisor within a Supervised Contact Centre that complements my business. I hope to be able to give up the Temp admin role in the future.
I have a bank account (current and savings) for my business and a personal account where my NHS income goes - I have yet to take any income from the business.
I have registered as SE with HMRC and they are aware I am working too - I can exempt for SE NI as I am not going to earn enough this year.
I have set up income & expenditure spreadsheets for the business and could easily do the same if I get the new role and keep them separate - What should I do about bank accounts? Open a 3rd for the new SE work, use my personal account or could I use the business account? I could end up with 3 bank accounts with very little cash in any!
