We are Canadians and moved to the UK in 2008. We are in our early thirthies and are expecting. We are earning around 130k annually, and have been contributing to company pension plans for a number of years.
We have two sets of questions. First, we would like to make sure that we got the right tax relief from our pension contributions, as we understand that the relief when we are taxed at 40% isn't automatic in the UK.
Second, we would like to understand if there are some clever things to do from a tax perspective once we have our first born. For example, should the lowest earner claim tax benefit at the expense of the highest earner, the one who makes more than 60k?
